Audience Research (general)-

It is very important to know your target audience for a film to suit their interests and make sure that the film is a big success on the market. After researching the target audience for horror films, I came to the conclusion the average age of a target audience would be between 15 and 25 years. I thought it would depend more on the type of horror movie it was and what it involved, and obviously the age certificate it was given. It is clear to see that teenagers would be most interested in viewing this type of film as, stereotypically they are the ones who prefer to experience the shock of it all. It is hard to believe that there is a high number of people above this age who would be as interested as teenagers in watching a horror movie as they have possibly grown out of the whole idea of it.

I think the main interested gender for horror films would be males as, stereotypically, they are seen as being more difficult to scare or make jump, whereas females are supposedly seen as the ones who are a lot easier to scare and worry. Horror films are also typically watched on dates with women because the men use it as their cue to try and protect and shield the female in their company at the time.

The results of my questionnaire do match up with the general patterns of horror audiences. Most people who did my questionnaire were between the ages of 15 and 25 showing that it is definitely most common for people between these ages to be interested in horror movies as this is what information online told me as well. I didn't have much success in finding out the types of horror movies people like in my general audience research due to lack of resources online; however seeing as it stated online that the vast majority of people who watch horror movies are between the ages of 15 and 25, I thought I would look closely into my independent research as it shows the same.  I can therefore see what people have stated they enjoy within the horror genre on there, then hopefully we can base the trailer on the results which proved to be the most popular.
